The mission of Calkins Publishing Company is to offer new and different perceptions of the things we take for granted. Our purpose is to introduce new insights on such subjects as art, science, philosophy, government and the human condition. It is not incidental that our publishing trade name is A Different Perception.
It is part of the human condition that everything we know is hostage to our assumptions about the nature of things. Some of our assumptions are explicit. We have the opportunity to assess their validity and correct them as needed. Others are implicit; they are buried deep in our subconscious where they tend to remain both unknown and unexamined. To open our minds and broaden our perspective, we occasionally need to excavate all of our assumptions and give them a good dose of sunlight and fresh air. It also wouldn't hurt to shake them up a bit with a good swift kick. Our goal is to provide points of view which will stimulate that excavation and reexamination. |
